   Kate's sensitivity and capacity to empathize, combined with her breadth of training and experience, makes her uniquely able to help clients alter self-limiting patterns (behavioral, relational, and emotional), thereby allowing them to enjoy richer personal and professional lives.
 
Kate has worked with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings in California and New York including private practice, community-based clinics and programs, and both in-patient and out-patient treatment programs. 
 
Kate was first licensed as a Pyschotherapist and Family Therapist in 1989 in California (and maintains her license there) and became licensed in New York State in 2005.  She has consulted with various organizations and treatment programs, assisting them in the development of successful and improved systems of care.  
 
She is also proud to hold the Approved Supervisor designation (the Association for Marriage and Family Theraoy) — a qualified master therapist authorized to train therapists pursing licensure and to supervise graduate students.  She has been a clinical member of the Association for Marriage and Family Therapy since 1989.
 
A frequent writer for her profession, Kate has presented nationally on subjects such as psychotherapist training; the process of systemic change, in both mental health staff and within families; and the incorporation of diverse clinical approaches in Alcohol and Drug Treatment including: Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy Groups, Multi-Family Therapy Education Groups (patients participating), Individulal Therapy for Family Members, Patient Self-Help Group Options while in treatment; attendance at outside SMART Recovery Groups, and Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous Meetings.  
 
Kate was also a clinical researcher on a NIMH study of Bipolar Disorder conducted at the University of California at San Diego.  In other research, she collaborated on an outcome study of couple and family functioning, with the goal of improving treatment for individuals and families, and presented this research nationally. 
 
She also presented on Families and the Treatment of Loved Ones Living with a Dual Diagnosis: a severe and persistent mental illness and alcohol and drug abuse/addiction, at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Conference in San Francisco, CA.
 
Kate completed a post-graduate, clinical training program at the San Diego Cognitive Therapy Training Center and, in 1990, began training under the prestigious Dr. Michael Yapko, Ph. D, with whom she continues in professional consultation.  Dr. Yapko is a Clinical Psychologist, author, and internationally recognized expert and lecturer on the treatment of depression as well as the use of Solution-Focused Therapy and Clinical Hypnosis in treating anxiety and depression. 
 
Trained and fluent in diverse psychotherapeutic modalities, Kate draws from these to suit each client's needs and goals:

  • Solution Focused Therapy
 
She also draws from well-researched Holistic and Mind-Body approaches and modalities that can complement and/or facilitate growth and change:
